HEART TALK - Chanji's Diary - Fourth Installment

"The Key?" and
The automatic walk off-

Yesterday, Buasaheb was in a fix-- rather confused as to what excuse he
should put forth before the Mandali and boys to go away. And here was
the result!

Rashid, one of the eldest boys, who had been thinking of going home,
and had already intimated Buasaheb to write to his father etc. today
seems to be disinclined to stay, and himself wanted to go away. Not
only did he alone prepare to go away but his remarks during the last
few days amongst boy's seem to have poisoned the ears of some of the
boys, who quite contrary to all expectation, took it into their heads
to go away. The first victim seemed to be Rafiuddin, who quite
strangely, got up from meditation, and requested for a permission to
go away. Besides, he acted in such a way as to indicate a crack--
(rather mad) mind and some concern was felt re: the boy - as to
whether he had actually gone mad - but it was eventually discussed and
decided all would be well. Nussruddin - poor boy has to go too, though
he had much inclination to stay and actually shed tears! These 3 were
therefore sent by the afternoon 1 o'clock train to Chalisgon. Vullbh -
had already gone this morning to Nagar-- saying mala karmat nahi (I
don't like it here.)

Datoo - Digambar, the two Pandherpuri brothers, too speaking of "going
away" - least expected from boys like them dusha karma [evil
sanskaras], who had himself made up his mind to stay with Shree, when
the Ashram was newly opened - today again took to head to "go away.

Homi - Minu - the Hakim brothers, whose father has only just 2 days
back (on the 31st) - left them here personally, being asked by Shree
whether they wanted to go or to stay -- (They) showed inclination to
go away - .

Thus, the batch of 5 above, and one (Khodadad) from Bombay, who was
awaiting the M.O. from father with Homi - (below) were all sent away
by the 5 o'clock train.

The number of boys gone today was 9. (and with Bhiva: who went away 3-4
days back it is 10)

"That is why I told you to close this Ashram! See how the difference
between these boys (who went away) and these. Running away 3-4 times
to their parents or walking the whole distance over, what a world of
difference indeed.

Vest. asked immediately after his talk with his parents 2-3 days ago -
said aathvan nahi [doesn't remember anything] couldn't remember a
word! No thought of it, even. What a changed mentality!
