HEART TALK - Chanji's Diary - Tenth Installment
This is the final installment of Chanji's Diary from 1929. Next week
will begin a new series of letters between Baba and Dr. Goher.
============================
Padri - who had been to Bombay to arrange for the passage etc. of
Meredith Starr and party, arrived this afternoon. He had been here, at
'Nagar yesterday, with the Khan Sahab's family, who had been to B'bay,
and who returned yesterday-- by motor.
So - at last the Starr party - has left India by the Arquellia - on the
2nd January. - It was no small relief to all - His recent behavior -
with Adi and others even with Shree was far from ---. It was a great
sacrifice on part of Adi for Baba's sake to get them overboard. Mr.
Satha too did no little service. - A petty mistake by Mr. R. - in
misjudging him, cost us around 6 to 7. --- Shree wanted boys, and
these people started off with the money entrusted to them for boy. It
was a clear case of --- however, when they came from such a distance,
it would be unfair to ill-treat them coldly or indifferently and quite
unworthy of Shree's Durbar. So, everything was tolerated - to the
last. The patience kept by Adi and others was really marvellous. They
all had to suffer, one way or the other -- and were even paid with
ingratitude and unbecoming words. But all these tortures were put up
very creditably. Their sacrifice was admirable.
It was given to understand to Mr. Padri, by some Parsi gentlemen near
Mumbra, where they had stopped these cars for some repairs etc. that a
motor car, in which Prof. Kapadia and his family others were
proceeding to Poona day before yesterday (2nd), met with some accident
near here - and the ladies being injured, they were taken to hospital
at Jhana. - (Vide Jame [Gujerati newspaper] news attached)
Prof. Kapadia's suddenly gave a thought to Sarosh and Padri - that it
might perhaps be the same party, who were reported to be going to
Nagar (to Baba) - with Col. Irani -- him -- and others, and it was
quite quite natural that if they wished to create some disturbance
here - during this visit - (or any such evil intentions) - this was a
deserved punishment - rather a warning, which if they cared to take up
would do them much good. Let us see what transpires. These are all
conjectures!
