ANZAR'S ARENA

by Naosherwan Anzar

RAINDROPS: While browsing through Bili Eaton's archives, I came across this deeply meaningful paragraph in a letter that Meher Baba's sister Mani S. Irani wrote to Bili on May 25, 1955 from Satara: “What you said about the ‘daaman’ reminds me of the simile Baba gave us long ago in Meherabad. “You must stick as close as you can to me or you may find yourselves falling off. Like raindrops on an open umbrella that is twirled round, those that are farthest away (in love not in distance) are shaken off. Those that are really close are unmoved. You all love me greatly for you stick on — I love you more for I hold you to me.

MASTER DRUMMER: In a letter to the Editor, Thomas M. Cabezas, in response to an article on Dr. Grant's meeting with Meher Baba in the November 1994 issue of GLOW INTERNATIONAL, he writes, My notes in recalling the sixties is that there definitely was a release of spiritual energy in the form of heightened consciousness, that in the human level began to take form as described in Baba's discourse The New Humanity”. Like a nuclear explosion, this surge of spiritual energy that released universally touched all aspects of life in a multitude of ways. I then noticed that when Baba actually dropped His body, the initial joy experienced by so many, for example the Hippie movement in the USA, turned into pain — reminescent to me of experiences described in a mystical book titled ‘The Cloud of Unknowing’. Another aspect of the manifestation of the breaking of Baba's Silence may be found in His Universal Message . . . when I release the tide of Truth, which I have come to give, men's daily lives will be the living precept. The words I have not spoken will come to life in them. Recently Tom published and distributed a short fable titled ‘A Midwife's Tale’ along with a collection of Meher Baba's messages and prayers.

EXPLORATION: California-resident James Peterson, devoted to Meher Baba for a number of years, sent us a book he wrote and published in 1987 called “The Secret Life of Kids’. It is a fascinating exploration into the psychic senses of children. In this book Peterson has put together a charming collection of case-histories about psychic episodes experienced by children. He believes that they should be accepted as factual: that frequently they emanate from the “wisdom of innocence” present in youngsters. The book, about to be released by Quest Books in a second edition, quotes Meher Baba extensively and emphasizes that ‘love and intuition are qualities quite different from psychic powers and may be the characteristics that will lead us into the New Age.

Peterson makes a candid observation, ” It has even been suggested by not a few esoteric groups that the World Teacher or Avatar will appear to usher in this New Age, and this event (or “advent”) will attract advanced souls from different parts of the universe who wish to be present in human bodies on earth. Many of these advanced souls, I have often heard it said, are now are children.” The book is priced at $8.95 and available from Quest Books, PO Box 270, Wheaton, IL 60189-0270.

ORAL TRADITION: Another fine book, for children and adults alike, is ‘The Golden Goose King’, retold and illustrated by Judith Ernst and dedicated to the “memory of Mehera Irani for her example of pure, selfless love”. The Buddhist Jataka story, told by the Buddha Himself, was transmitted orally for centuries, and when written down took a form combined of verse, story, and moral commentary. As explained by Carl Ernst, Professor of Religious Studies, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in his Foreword, These exquisite portraits convey all the elegance and calm appreciation of physical beauty that emerged from the courts of ancient India . . . Over the years, during her visits to Meherabad, Judith often visited the Ajanta Caves and learned to emulate the lucid painting style in the caves. She brings the story and the illustrations in all its beauty and glory in this elegant book. It is available for $19.95 from the Parvardigar Press, PO Box 4631, Chapel Hill, NC 27515.

SURFING: One of the joys of surfing the Internet and peeking into the World Wide Web pages is the satisfaction of getting information fast. We are delighted that our Webmaster Joe Stewart will position pages from GLOW INTERNATIONAL next month on the Avatar Meher Baba Web site text, pictures et al. The Internet is a fascinating medium of communication. Every day Baba lovers from across the world discuss how they are trying to hold onto Baba's daaman. In a recent discussion, members on the Internet Listserv, maintained by Joe, talked about their feelings on ‘honesty’. As a recent entreprenaur, I found the discussion practical, uninhibited and honest. If you wish to correspond with me, please e-mail zenocom@aol.com. To explore the Meher Baba Web pages, key in the URL: index.html.
